Does your building have a 3D printer that you want to use but you're not sure where to start? In this session we will go over an example lesson plan where students research, design, and print a flood-resistant structure. Students learn the basics of 3D Design using TinkerCAD and use the Engineering Design Process to create their flood-resistant house. In this session we will go over how to get started in TinkerCAD (no experience needed!), how to coach students through designing their structure, practice peer feedback, and one way to test the houses on a river simulation table. We will also cover ways to identify some common design flaws that result in print failure. Project guidelines, rubric, and a TinkerCAD guide will be provided to participants.
This could be used to teach rivers, weathering/erosion, weather patterns, and other topics.
